ABOUT ABOUT

Black Stockings is an immoral morality play about sex and war. Two prostitutes in a brothel in Manchester, England use prostitution as a measuring stick for morality in relation to war. It is a very funny drama. Winnie plays Donna, the brothel owner who is rather beaten down and cynical. Brit plays Trish, her younger counterpart who is still a bit more optimistic about life. It is the relationship between Trish and her Granddad, who was a decorated WWII bomber pilot that adds the moral integrity to what is otherwise an hour of filth and perversion. The audience is lead to consider the acceptance of wartime atrocities as just part of war and the disparities in societies perceptions of morality. Even though the war discussed in the play is WWII, it could easily translate to any number of today's conflicts. Have you paid any attention to what is happening in Syria lately? In the play Donna and Trish tell stories, crack jokes, dance with a blow up doll and will make you laugh. Until they make you cry. This is a brilliant piece of theatre that anyone who has an appreciation for good writing should see it. Then again, anytime anyone has a chance to see Brittany Lacour on stage, they should take it. She owns the stage in this production.
